Malte ClausenAI deployment strategy and machine learning in production
Founder and CEO, Velocity Insights
I believe AI should raise the standard of professional work.
For a leadership team, the opportunity is not more AI tools. It is operating capability: sharper analysis, better decisions, stronger governance, and more effective use of senior time.
I have seen this from the advisor's chair and from the operator's.
Where this comes from
I was trained at McKinsey, where I learned structured problem solving, client service, and the discipline of high-standard professional work. From 2015 to 2019 I led the commercial organisation of Vestas' global Service Business, and it was there that I spearheaded machine learning initiatives before generative AI became a boardroom topic. I owned the development and worldwide deployment of Shop Vestas and Blade Asset Management, with machine learning running in production on operational data throughout.
Through Clausen Advice from 2019 to 2022 I continued the same work independently, advising corporate and private-equity clients. As a Partner at BCG from 2022 to 2024, I refined my advisory craft with senior teams on high-stakes strategic and commercial questions, and built generative AI into client delivery as the technology arrived in the corporate world. Through 2025 and 2026 I sat on the board of InnoStrat, a life-science consulting firm, putting AI at the centre of its own operations.
How I think about AI
Ten years of doing this work has shaped how I think about it. It is powerful when it is deployed into real workflows, with the right tools, the right governance, and a clear view of where value is created. The standard cannot be more output. The standard has to be better work: useful, trusted, secure, and relevant to the decisions leaders actually make.
What I am building
Today I am building Velocity Insights, an AI deployment consultancy for mid-market organisations. We work with executives to find where AI creates measurable value, put the tools and governance in place, and produce the high-stakes documents leadership teams rely on: board materials, investment memos, strategic reviews and market assessments.
